Gatherings at the studio to stream surf contests and watch the local pros compete and display their craeft on the global stage.
September 12 – October 10 · Exhibition October 10
Patrick Conklin was born and raised on Flagler Beach waves. But surfing isn’t his main craeft. For him, surfing is for when the mood strikes. But painting—that’s the one he can’t resist. The thing he’d do whether anyone was watching or not. Over time, it’s taken him a long way from here: a canvas set up beside a lake in Biarritz, a residency in New York, and Portugal next on the list.
A local residency just hits different. He’s posting up for four weeks at The Studio, just across from the break he grew up surfing.
The art he makes is big and physical—on large canvases, with varying tools and materials, sometimes in hours, other times in weeks. His work has landed in homes, businesses, galleries, books, and prints well beyond Flagler. (He shoots photography and film, too — right now he’s on the road with a musician, building a photo book.)
Patrick approaches painting the way you chase anything worth getting good at: with discipline, creativity, down a road that rarely comes easy.
On October 10, we get to celebrate his craeft—to see his work up close, spend an evening with him, and, if a piece speaks to you, carry home something one of a kind from a craftsman who’s one of our own.
An annual memorial surf classic bringing together the surf community and building up the next generation of athletes. Established in 1999, it’s one of the longest-standing surf traditions in Florida. Proceeds support local pros to advance their surf careers.
